The freedom to consume stand in sharp contrast to the freedom William Wallace (at least the one embodied by Mel Gibson) cried for.

I’m not sure if this has to be read in the context of the previous parts. As a stand-alone, it contains interesting information, but I’m not clear where you want to take this. If I understand correctly, your direction seems to be towards viewing the interactions we call society in a way which would have positive benefits on all concerned. If so, do you have some notions on such a view?

Good comment. I believe that negative liberty do have it’s benefits. After periods of extreme positive liberty (such as the russian example), people tend to want stronger government control. Positive liberty will always benefit the few, thus creating an unequal society. In other words, plain capitalism. I believe we need a balance before we can talk of real freedom. I do believe that for instance Tony Blair lent too heavily on postive liberty, given that he represented the labour party, and too heavily on negative liberty as well. State control acellerated, especially in the context of the war on terror.
It startet out as a notion of todays ‘freedom’ in general; that our freedom has become more and more limited, and we’re heading backward in time. We can say and write whatever the hell we like, as long as we refrain from actually doing anything. Wallace would have been labeled a terrorist these days, just as he was back then. It might a pessimistic view, and I guess people are trapped within the boundaries of a ever more controlled society – whether it’s public or private. I can speak out against it, but in fact I feel powerless.

I agree that the actual image don’t have to be read in that particular context. All my works are open for interpretation.

i think its brilliant. it shows the masculine soul, represented by william wallace, and the things that represent what today’s society has said means freedom. how wrong society is remains constant.
