The environmental issue is now the first priority on the political agenda. And it’s about time. Ever since I heard the warnings on the nature documentaries as a kid, I was terrified. It’s a good thing that more responsible people than me starts to worry.
This is a tribute to a modern gunslinger; Frederic Hauge. I suppose he’s quite unknown outside our borders, so I’ll present you with a brief resumee. He participated in forming the environmental organization Bellona about twenty years ago, and has relentlessly pursued politicians and corporations ever since. He hasn’t always been popular with the powerful men and women of Norway, especially in times where the cause gained little sympathy and attention. It’s been a struggle, and just recently the organization has received acknowledgement and support nationwide. Hauge was also involved in the russian ’spy’ scandal, when co-writer Aleksandr Nikitin was charged. They had recently published a report on nuclear waste and russian submarines on Kola, and the paranoid russian military wanted revenge on Nikitin.
Edit: Not bad! Hauge was featured in Time Magazine
